Montreal Canadiens legend Jean Beliveau, who passed away a week ago at the age of 83, was honored before Tuesday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks at the Bell Centre. Beliveau’s surving family – including his wife, Elise Couture – were in attendance as the team reflected on his legacy with an emotional ceremony (below) prior to puck drop.
Once the game started, a puck flew out of play just a few minutes into the first period and, strangely enough, landed in the vicinity of the very seat that Jean himself often sat in at the arena. The fan that got their hands on the early-game souvenir approached Couture, who was seated directly next to Beliveau’s illuminated, jersey-adorned chair, and gifted the puck to her.
She graciously accepted (and will likely cherish) that puck; what a great moment.
