During Thursday night’s loss to the Seattle Storm, Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark faced some pretty physical defense. But she and her coach seem to think the defense was a little too physical at times and should have resulted in more foul calls.
Toward the end of the game on Thursday night, Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides let her frustration show as she screamed at the referees following what appeared to be an uncalled foul against Caitlin Clark.
Sides was given a technical foul for her outburst, but Clark made it clear after the game that she was grateful for her coach defending her, and she took the chance to criticize the officiating herself, saying that she felt she was “getting hammered” with no foul calls.
Caitlin Clark:
“I feel like I’m getting hammered. I appreciate Christie getting a tech. I just… I don’t know.” #Fever | @WTHRcom pic.twitter.com/Mm7mas4Ul3

“I feel like I’m getting hammered,” Clark said according to Dom Miranda. “I appreciate Christie getting a tech. I just… I don’t know.”
Obviously, Clark was not happy with the referees, and her words led to a strong reaction on social media.
I actually don’t mind CC , the only thing I don’t like is every interview her head is down constantly , with a hand often covering her face too. Like look up and speak to people girl.
Other than that keep talking your shit on the court , as you should but AS THEY SHOULD TOO! https://t.co/EZB1LWHDUF

people are going to make this into some “gotcha” moment instead of the fact that she’s legit getting fouled every possession https://t.co/2g3e1PJrEQ

With so little time and so little preseason and no winter league there’s not much time to adjust to the league physicality. The guys get some adjustment time. CC is small…Fevers performance staff is gonna have to bulk her up some. Player development drills are so important. https://t.co/pKF2AoZ8SM

Really hope she doesn’t decide to play into the media and her crazed fans and become a professional victim. Get your weight up and show em who you are CC. That’s what Angel is doing 🤷🏽♀️🥱 https://t.co/dXGFDuC9LE

Remember when we (ppl who actually played ball) said when you go up a level you have to adjust to the speed and physicality. She will have to get stronger and that’s on par with adjusting! https://t.co/Ehc6iQHnZh

Clark was never afraid to criticize and call out referees during her time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, and it seems like she’s comfortable doing at the professional level as well.
