A total of 14 luxury cars, eight of which were Ferraris, have been involved in what’s sure to be a very expensive pile-up on a highway in Japan.
According to officials, the accident was caused when one of the Ferrari drivers lost control in the wet while switching lanes. His supercar then skidded into the median strip before bouncing off into the path of oncoming cars.
There were no serious injuries to any of the drivers, aged between 37 and 60, though 10 were taken to hospital.
It’s hard to gather what models were involved but from this local news footage we can see the wreckage of several 355s, a 360 Modena, and an F430. Sadly, due to the severity of the crash, most of the cars are likely to be written off.
According to Bloomberg, the cars were part of a supercar convoy heading from Kyushu to Hiroshima. They crashed at approximately 10:16 am local time Sunday morning on a rain-soaked Chugoku Expressway in Yamaguchi Prefecture on the island of Honshu.
The crash is still being investigated, and there’s a chance the driver responsible, a 60-year-old self-employed man from Fukuoka prefecture, may face some charges.
In addition to the Ferraris, there were also three Mercedes-Benzes involved, two Toyotas, and one Lamborghini.
