The Minnesota Vikings had a disappointing close to the season in the NFL regular-season finale after falling to the Detroit Lions in a game that decided not only the NFC North champions but also the NFC’s number one overall seed. The Vikings lost 31-9 in a game that got out of reach quickly in the second half.

Quarterback Sam Darnold struggled throughout the game, with many speculating that the veteran quarterback cost himself millions of dollars when it came time to sit down at the negotiating table with his impending free agency.

Now, it looks like the Vikings are putting a contingency plan in place in case Darnold struggles again in the playoffs, at the cost of another quarterback being replaced on Minnesota’s roster.

The (Vikings) have signed QB Daniel Jones to the active roster and waived Brett Rypien, per me and (Tom Pelissero),” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Twitter.

Fans reacted to the roster move on social media.

“They can use him on goal line packages. He was always pretty good down near the goal line,” one fan wrote on Twitter of Jones’s effectiveness near the endzone.

“Danny Dimes QB option package in the gameplan?” one fan wondered.

“QB controversy in Minnesota? Darnold saw ghosts against Detroit, now he’s going to see Dimes,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Jones takes the field in the wild-card round.
