The Chicago Bears have started Black Monday with an unsurprising bang. According to ESPN, the team has fired general manager Phil Emery and head coach Marc Trestman. The moves are not shocking after a brutal season in which they lost their last five games and became the laughingstock of the NFL.
Trestman only lasted two seasons in Chicago after being lured from the CFL where he coached the Montreal Alouettes for five seasons. Emery managed to last a whole three seasons after taking over for longtime GM Jerry Angelo in 2012. Both were criticized heavily over the last two years for failing to rebuild a Brian Urlacher-less defense and bring adequate offensive results to a unit littered with stars in Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.
