Quarterbacks Skylar Thompson and veteran quarterback Mike White have been competing this offseason for the backup quarterback job for the Miami Dolphins behind starter Tua Tagovailoa, and it seems like the Dolphins have made their decision regarding who has won that job.
On Sunday, the Miami Dolphins decided to release Mike White, making it clear that Skylar Thompson will be the team’s backup quarterback this season. Head coach Mike McDaniel offered some pretty strong praise for Thompson, as well.
“I see a better quarterback now than I did at the beginning of camp, than last year and the year before . . . I see teammates believe in him,” McDaniel said according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “How do you respond to adversity, and how do you make a play when one isn’t there. I wasn’t surprised by what I saw from Skylar. . . . We don’t need an experienced guy. We can go with a guy who has a high ceiling. I think this particular QB room we can go with a young guy, an old guy or just a good guy.”
White was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He also started games for the New York Jets in both 2021 and 2022.
