California governor Gavin Newsom has had a very successful political career catering to the wealthy and connecting with celebrities.
But his latest move seemingly comes out of left field: Co-hosting a podcast, Politickin’, with NFL legend Marshawn Lynch and sports agent Doug Hendrickson.
Hendrickson is most likely the show’s common denominator. He represents Lynch and has been personal friends with Newsom since the 1990s.
The first show premiers July 15th.

As The Los Angeles Times noted, the iHeartRadio platform bills the podcast as “an unexpected collaboration,” which is putting it mildly.
The radio platform describes Newsom “like you’ve never seen him” Lynch “exactly as how you’d expect him.”
“It’s bridging gaps,” Lynch told the Times. “You sit down, you come to the roundtable, we need to figure it out. I need to figure out where you’re coming from, right? But you need to figure out where he’s coming from.
“Your politicking may be a little bit different, you feel me? You handle yours a different way. We bring each side, all walks of life, and we figure out what we’ve got going on.”
Newsome has hosted a media show before; as California’s then-Lieutenant Governor, he hosted The Gavin Newsom Show on Current TV.
