Aaron Rodgers’ calf has received more attention over the last month than any calf in NFL history, but a couple Seahawks players think it’s all an elaborate ruse. Rodgers initially injured the calf early in the Packers Week 16 win against the Buccaneers. The soon-to-be MVP re-aggravated it in their division-clinching win the following week against the Lions, causing him to miss the first series of the second half while receiving treatment, a series that went nowhere and cost the Packers a chance to pull away sooner than they did.
As expected the calf received a significant amount of attention during the team’s Wild Card bye week and throughout their win against Dallas last Sunday. Although Rodgers managed to throw for 316 yards and three scores on 24-for-35 passing, he appeared to be in discomfort and was unwilling to venture too far out of the pocket. On multiple occasions Rodgers had open field to roam but elected for difficult throws instead.
Only Rodgers and the Packers know the actual severity of the injury but a couple Seattle players think it’s a load of crap. Thomas is one of those that claims it’s a non-injury.
I’m not buying into this leg issue. I’m not buying into it. I saw (him) scramble close to the goal line against the Cowboys so he’s not fooling me with that.
Add defensive lineman O’Brien Schofield to the list of non-believers as well:
Honestly, I don’t believe it either.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a team plays up or plays down an injury to a key player, as teams are constantly toying with opponents via the injury report and various media rumblings. However, it appears to be an awfully elaborate plan if the Packers were willing to let their season hang in the balance…twice.
