Even though former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016, he’s made it clear that he’d still like to play in the league. But unfortunately for him, one report indicates that’s not going to happen.
This week, “a source close to the NFL” told Russ Weakland of The Daily Mail that there is no chance an NFL team will consider signing Kaepernick no matter how desperate their quarterback situation gets.
“Even with the recent injury to Joe Burrow and the likelihood of other NFL QBs getting injured this season, there is no scenario, where even if and when talked about, that Colin Kaepernick and Tom Brady would come and fill those voids and sign with an NFL team this season,” the source told Weakland.
“Tom is retired for good, he’s done and Colin, no matter how many workouts he does for teams or private workouts he does with current players, no team is signing him, and no team is signing them.”
According to the source, NFL general managers will simply sign other players instead.
“Every team has its backups and is clearly not hoping for injury, but when and if it occurs there will be no attempt to ask either player to join their team, it is just not going to happen. GMs will look elsewhere.”
Kaepernick has not played in the league since his iconic national anthem protests in 2016 after he accused NFL owners of blackballing him from the league. The two sides settled and Kaepernick conducted multiple tryouts in front of NFL scout, but he has not received a contract offer.
