Quarterback Justin Fields has been in a state of limbo this entire offseason as the Chicago Bears decided whether to stick with Fields as their starting quarterback or to select a rookie with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and trade Fields. And it appears that the Bears have finally made a decision on his future.
According to a report from NFL Draft analyst and insider Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, the Chicago Bears are “close to finalizing” a trade that would send Justin Fields to the Atlanta Falcons.
“Word in Indianapolis is the Chicago Bears are close to finalizing a deal which would send former first-round pick Justin Fields to the Atlanta Falcons,” Pauline wrote for Sportskeeda.
“It is not known if the deal will be finalized or even announced before the conclusion of the Combine. As I reported on Thursday, if the Falcons can’t come to terms with the Bears for Fields they will turn their attention to Baker Mayfield if he’s available when free agency commences.”
Even if this trade is not finalized or does not actually materialize, this report indicates that the Bears are planning to move on from Fields this offseason and select a quarterback in the draft, likely Caleb Williams.
