The honeymoon phase is over in New York.
Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets are failing to consistently look like the Super Bowl contenders the team brought Aaron Rodgers in to become. Their latest loss is the most embarrassing yet of the Aaron Rodgers era in New York.
The Jets lost 10-9 at home to the Denver Broncos in a game in which New York failed to reach the end zone a single time, settling for three field goals. Rodgers wasn’t at his sharpest, going 24-for42 and being sacked five times.
The Jets committed five false starts in the contest, and head coach Robert Saleh speculated that Rodgers’ cadence on the snap count was a part of the issue.
“We gotta figure it out, whether or not we’re good enough or ready to handle all of the cadence,” Saleh said. “Cadence had not been an issue all camp. Felt like our operation had been operating pretty good. Obviously, today took a major step back.”

Rodgers had another take on the situation as he expressed his displeasure at the way Saleh planned to handle the issue, making it clear that he wanted Saleh to hold players accountable for their mistakes.
“That’s one way to do it,” Rodgers said. “The other way is to hold them accountable. I mean, we haven’t had an issue. We’ve had one false start. Morgan [Moses] had one false start, I believe, until this.”

If the former MVP quarterback can’t get on the same page as his head coach it’ll be a long season for the Jets. It’ll be interesting to see how they handle the rocky relationship moving forward.
