So amazingly, Herm Edwards is now the head coach of Arizona State, or as the Sun Devils put it, “CEO”. Whether this is going to be successful remains to be seen, but certainly the Sun Devils are on board. They’ve provided us with his neat video of his first day on the job, and it’s pretty remarkable.
Herm is certainly good at some parts of being a college football coach, notably building relationships and talking to large crowds, which is incredibly important when talking to boosters, doners, etc. But the best part of the video is his amazement at the size of college football jerseys in 2017.
When he last coached in the NFL, they were fairly gigantic floppy things, especially for QB’s. Today, especially for Adidas, the uniforms leave very little to the imagination. He was so shocked that he thought the uniforms he was handed were for “girls”. Oh no.
Bad comments aside, Edwards’ re-introduction to college football is going to be a fascinating storyline of the offseason. How he adapts, changes and gets back into coaching, let alone college coaching, is going to be worth the entertainment value and silly comments about uniforms being for “girls”… OK maybe not that last bit.
