We’ve watched enough UCLA basketball games over the years to assume head coach Ben Howland walks around with a permanent scowl on his face. Apparently, we were wrong, as photos from last night outside Pauley Pavilion suggest. Students were camped out in anticipation of a visit from College GameDay (and a showdown with the 11th-ranked Arizona Wildcats), so the head coach showed up — track suit, and all — to join the kids for a little beer pong action.
In the first photo, you can see the old man is still very serious about his craft, whether it’s coaching or frat party activities, but when star freshman Shabazz Muhammad showed up, he actually manages to crack a smile.
