Yordano Ventura and Jose Bautista weren’t the focus of the brouhaha between the Royals and Blue Jays on Sunday, but they’re the center of attention now.
Ventura took to Twitter after the game to threaten Bautista and even go as far as to call him a “nobody”. The tweets soon were deleted, but here’s what he said:
“We’ll meet again later and if you do that with me, you’ll see what I’m about. I don’t care about anybody. I used to respect you, but you’re a nobody. … You got lucky this time, but MLB doesn’t get canceled after this season. Keep running your mouth. … You need to stop giving signs. You’re gonna get it from me for being fresh and you really are a nobody.”
Ventura, who’s just 24 years old and hasn’t put much time into the big leagues, was the instigator of multiple dust-ups between the Royals and opposing teams this season. You might remember him for yelling at Adam Eaton, beaning Brett Lawrie, and even getting into it with Mike Trout.
Rogers Sportsnet analyst Gregg Zaun took exception to Ventura’s comments to Bautista and verbally massacred him on-air before Monday’s game vs. the Twins.
We really, really need a playoff series between these two teams.
