For once, all the talk surrounding an episode of Saturday Night Live isn’t focused on the show itself, but rather a 15 second advertisement that took viewers by surprise — and left electronic music fans drooling. Daft Punk, the French electro-pop duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, teased viewers with a snippet off their upcoming album — their first in eight years — in a moment that most certainly overshadowed the show’s actual musical guest, Macklemore.
Daft Punk, a recent Columbia Records signee, doesn’t need to catch the wave of electronic music taking over America, as they’ve been popular for more than a decade state-side. But with lackluster efforts since their 2001 album Discovery –2005’s Human After All; Tron: Legacy soundtrack — there’s never been a better time for a comeback.
