After leading the Michigan Wolverines to the College Football Playoff national title on Monday night with a win over the Washington Huskies, Jim Harbaugh will now have a decision to make as he is widely considered one of the top candidates for several NFL head coaching vacancies. But Michigan Wolverines athletic director Warde Manuel made it very clear that he wants Harbaugh to remain at Michigan.

Following the team’s national title game victory on Monday, Warde Manuel addressed the decision facing Jim Harbaugh as he is pursued by NFL teams across the country.

“I understand why people in the pros would want to hire Jim Harbaugh and talk to him about being the coach,” Manuel said on the confetti-strewn field at NRG Stadium on Monday night. “The man went to a Super Bowl. He won a conference championship. He went back to a conference championship. In that league.”

But he had a pretty clear message for Harbaugh about what he desires from his head coach.

“But I want him to stay at Michigan. I’ve said. I believe it. Three or four years ago when people wanted me to get rid of him, I didn’t. Because I believed then, and I believe now,” Manuel said.

Ultimately, though, it will come down to what Harbaugh wants, not what Michigan wants.
