NHL goaltenders have been putting some serious effort into the creation of their masks this season, and while most of them have opted for flashy, intricate designs such as an ode to The Fresh Prince, or a flesh-eating depiction of Ben Franklin, Canucks’ goalie Roberto Luongo is going a different route.
Luongo’s new mask features a much simpler, classic design that mimics the look of his ‘Johnny Canuck’ themed 2011 mask. He’s hoping that the recreation of this design will bring back some of the good luck that Vancouver had during their run to the Cup Finals.
It’s no secret that Luongo hit a rough patch in his career after the Canucks were eliminated by the L.A. Kings in the first round of the 2012 playoffs, but now that he’s back to being the no. 1 goaltender in Vancouver, he’s doing all he can to bring luck back on his side.
