As a sporting society we are conditioned to hearing the same, tired cliches night after night. That is why we gobble up moments like the one Rays’ Pitcher Chris Archer gave us tonight.
Archer, who was the AL’s Pitcher & Rookie of the Month in July, has struggled in his past two starts. Tonight he didn’t fare very well against the Seattle Mariners. The young righty gave up five earned runs in five innings of work.
If you watch attentively, you can see Archer try his best to guise a smirk as a reporter asks him why he hasn’t been pitching well. Archer, pauses and goes all stoner on us comparing himself to “the oldest, most wise things in nature.”
The best part comes at the end of the video, when a satisfied Archer nods in approval of the metaphor he just assembled.
