It’s only day 3 of NHL Free Agency and the Dallas Stars have made their fourth big signing. When free agency began, there were around twenty teams showing interest in Jaromir Jagr, but none as adamant as the Dallas Stars, who have offered him a 1-year, $4.5 million deal. This is a $1.2 million raise over the salary he made last season with the Philadelphia Flyers, an amount that many teams weren’t willing to offer the future Hall of Famer. The Stars have made the biggest impact so far this summer, trading away some of their grit and youth in order to accommodate skillful veterans like Ray Whitney and Jaromir Jagr.
They are looking at a potential top six that rivals that of any other team in the league including Jamie Benn, Loui Eriksson, Michael Ryder, Ray Whitney, Derek Roy and now Jagr. While they lost some of the intensity that came in the forms of Steve Ott and Mike Ribeiro, their four consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs made it apparent that it was time for a change. At 40-years old, this will be Jagr’s first season playing in the Western Conference. This is a monumental move for the franchise as it not only improves the quality of the team, but will surely increase the Stars’ fan base.
