The New York Jets have a lot going on. After making a trip across the pond to play in London, where they lost 23-17 to the Minnesota Vikings. The NFL world was blindsided by what transpired behind closed doors at the Jets’ facilities when the team got back from the loss.
New York fired head coach Robert Saleh despite the team being in a position to improve to first in the AFC East with a win over the Buffalo Bills on Monday. Now, players are starting to speak about what happened.
“As far as any of the ridiculous allegations out there, I’m not going to spend more than one sentence in response to it,” star quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on “The Pat McAfee Show,” per ESPN. “And that is that I resent any of those accusations because they are patently false. It’s interesting the amount of power that people think that I have, which I don’t. I love Robert.
“When it comes to me, I don’t feel like I need to defend myself or say anything. There’s always going to be narratives out there and conversations around what I think and how much power I have and how much influence I have. It’s not something I worry about — it’s really not.”
Rodgers’ statement comes with rumors swirling that he wanted Saleh out due to conflicts between the two. Another Jets player spoke about Rodgers’ involvement in the situation amid the circulating speculation.
“I don’t think anybody inside this building player-wise or anything thought that he had anything to do with that,” tight end Tyler Conklin said.
“I honestly, truly believe that. I mean, Aaron probably took this harder than almost anybody.”
It appears Rodgers wasn’t the reason Saleh was fired. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next with the Franchise, which always seems to be involved in some sort of turmoil.
