The New York Jets are floundering.
Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is used to defeating the Minnesota Vikings as a member of the Green Bay Packers, but he had a rougher go of things as the quarterback for the Jets. Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career on Sunday, throwing three interceptions and going 29-for-54 in a 23-17 loss.
Rodgers threw a touchdown to the Minnesota Vikings. Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel returned one of Rodgers’ interceptions 63-yards for a pick-six. Rodgers addressed the interceptions after the game.
“You’ve just got to be honest with your performance every single week and hold yourself to a standard,” Rodgers said, according to Yahoo.
“Obviously, that was below my standard. I’ve never thrown two picks in in the first quarter before, so that’s a first. One cost us seven and the other cost three. In a game we lose by six, plays like that are exponentially highlighted. So, three turnovers for me is definitely out of character and I’m disappointed.”
While it’s good Rodgers is taking accountability, something he’s struggled with throughout his career, it does nothing to improve the Jets’ current situation. Rodgers was brought in to turn New York into an instant contender.
The Jets have a losing record approaching the end of the first third of the season, and the offense isn’t showing considerable signs of improvement. While Rodgers said he is “confident we’ll get this thing straightened out,” it’s hard to see where his confidence is coming from.
The Jets’ next game is a massive one against the Buffalo Bills, so the Jets will need to straighten things out soon.
