Chicago Bears star rookie quarterback Caleb Williams is entering the 2024 NFL season with a lot of hype after he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. But it doesn’t sound like legendary former head coach Bill Belichick is all that impressed with what he has seen from him so far.
The former Heisman Trophy winner at USC has been compared to three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, and some even believe that Williams could be even better. Williams had moments of brilliance during the Bears’ preseason matchups, but not everyone is smelling the roses.
Legendary coach and surefire hall of famer Bill Belichick isn’t entirely sold on Williams’ ability to be consistent at the next level. In an appearance on Inside the NFL, Belichick had a pretty brutal assessment of the way that Williams played during the preseason, calling out his lack of accuracy during the games.
“Well, he wasn’t accurate, he was 10-for-20,” Belichick said. “There were a couple of highlight plays, but they weren’t that good.”

This is some pretty strong criticism, but if anyone knows what it takes to be successful in the NFL, it’s Belichick, who won six Super Bowls next to arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady.
It’ll be interesting to see whether or not Williams can prove him wrong.
