Throughout most of his career, former All-Pro wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has become accustomed to being the highest-paid and most high-profile wide receiver on the roster. But that certainly will not be the case with the Miami Dolphins this upcoming season.
As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out, Odell Beckham Jr. will be seeing a big dropoff in salary, making just $3 million in base salary this season compared to $15 million last year. And he will be much lower on the pecking order in the offense.
“There’s an upside of $5.25 million. It’s unclear (for now) what Beckham has to do to get there. Presumably, it has something to do with catching passes, gaining yards, and/or scoring touchdowns,” Florio wrote.
“And that won’t be easy to do. At the very best, Beckham will be WR3 on the depth chart, behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Then there’s the running back room, which has plenty of competent players. With only one ball, it could be hard for Beckham to get his hands on it.”
It’s certainly a brutal situation for Beckham that he will not exactly be used to. We’ll have to see how he handles it.
