The New York Giants opted not to draft a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. But that reportedly doesn’t mean that starting quarterback Daniel Jones isn’t in jeopardy of potentially losing his job next season.
After helping the Giants reach the postseason in the 2022-23 season, the team took a significant step back this past season. And perhaps more concerning is that Jones struggled heavily this past season when he was on the field.
He played in just six games due to injuries. But in those six games, he threw for 909 yards with two passing touchdowns and six interceptions.
Most Giants fans likely assumed that the team not selecting a quarterback in the draft likely means that Jones will definitely be the starter heading into the upcoming season.
But according to NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, that may not be the case, saying that Drew Lock may have a chance at starting over Jones.
“I believe Drew Lock has a really good shot of winning that job,” said Jeremiah. “They were comparing Daniel Jones and Drew Lock, emphasis on Drew Lock, to the QBs that were going to be there (at 6) and the line for them was Drake Maye.”
This is certainly an interesting development, especially when you consider that Drew Lock hasn’t exactly proven he can be all that reliable of a starter in the NFL at this point.
In four NFL seasons, Lock has started 23 games, completing under 60 percent of his passes with an overall team record of 9-14 in his starts.
Still, he will seemingly have an opportunity to win the starting job over Daniel Jones if Daniel Jeremiah is right in his assessment. So it will definitely be an interesting situation to monitor as we get closer to the start of the 2024 season.
