Before the NFL Draft this weekend, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suggested that the NFL season could eventually extend to 18 games in the future, cutting away a preseason game in favor of another regular season game. And if that happens, Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow is calling for another major change in response.

In a post on social media, Joe Burrow called for a move to two bye weeks during the season if the NFL does decide to move to an 18-game season.

“18 games? 2 bye weeks,” Burrow said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Burrow’s comments came after Goodell claimed that while he thinks the league is “good” with a 17-game regular season, he would be open to replacing a preseason game with a regular season game.

“I think we’re good at 17 now,” Goodell said on the Pat McAfee Show this week. “But, listen, we’re looking at how we continue. I’m not a fan of the preseason.… The reality is, I’d rather replace a preseason game with a regular-season game any day. That’s just picking quality.”

Burrow doesn’t necessarily sound like he’s opposed to that, but he would want an extra bye week if it happens.
