When the New York Giants signed veteran quarterback Drew Lock this offseason, many assumed that the signing meant he would compete with Daniel Jones for the starting job. But it doesn’t sound like that’s the case, after all.
During a recent interview with NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero at the Annual League Meeting on Saturday, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll made it clear that even though the team brought in Drew Lock this offseason, Daniel Jones will remain the team’s starting quarterback once he returns from his knee injury.
“We’re excited to have Drew, and he knows what his role is going to be,” Daboll told Pelissero of NFL.com this week. “He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again excited to get Daniel back, when he gets back he’ll be the guy.”
Jones signed a four-year contract extension with the New York Giants last season worth $160 million, so it isn’t necessarily shocking that the team is planning to keep him as their starting quarterback this upcoming season.
We’ll have to see how Jones bounces back from his injury and how he performs for the Giants this upcoming season.
