The New York Giants appear to be in the dreaded NFL purgatory with Daniel Jones at quarterback for the foreseeable future. And despite this, the franchise appears to have an extremely high opinion of him, which was further proved thanks to details that emerged about a recent meeting between the organization and Russell Wilson.
Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency to become their new starting quarterback. But prior to this, it sure seemed like the Giants were a potential landing spot for Wilson.
The Giants organization had met with Wilson before his signing in Pittsburgh. But Wilson ultimately decided to look elsewhere, and we now know why that was the case.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported on Monday that the Giants were not willing to “make any promises” about Wilson starting for the organization at quarterback over Jones, which seemingly played a factor in Wilson’s decision to sign with the Steelers.
“The Giants had an exploratory meeting last week with Russell Wilson, and the team didn’t make any promises about playing time,” wrote Howe. “That’s been the Giants’ approach as they’ve built toward the 2024 season with Jones as the expected starter.
Wilson has of course accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish in the NFL, playing in nine Pro Bowls and earning a Super Bowl championship back in 2014.
In comparison, Jones has only led the Giants to the postseason once in his five-year NFL career.
Considering this, many NFL fans believe that the Giants made a big mistake by not promising Wilson the starting job over Jones.
This is why nobody takes the Giants seriously..Daniel Jones is trash and he's below mid on a "good day " 😂

I couldn’t imagine putting my job on the line for “Daniel Jones”

Are you serious? If I was Russ, I would have laughed in their face and walked out! Wilson is a future HOF'er. Jones is a future back up.

I'm so glad the Giants are so in on Daniel Jones. It makes the week we play against them as stress free as a bye week.

no but seriously could you imagine if we saw a headline reading “Jets meeting with Aaron Rodgers included no guarantee he’d play over Zach Wilson” https://t.co/a8e0iufvFH

It’s certainly a bold call for the Giants to be so sold on Daniel Jones as the starter over someone like Wilson. Could it pay off? Possibly, but Giants fans sure don’t appear to be overly pleased with the decision at this point.
