When Justin Fields was not immediately traded by the Chicago Bears this offseason after the team had apparently decided that it was going to select Caleb Williams in the upcoming NFL Draft, many thought it was a sign that few teams were interested in the former first-round pick. But it sounds like that was not the case.
Over the weekend, Justin Fields was officially traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers from the Chicago Bears. But it does not sound like the Steelers were the only team that was vying for Fields’ services. According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, there were at least four other teams that wanted to trade for Fields.
“Important note on the Justin Fields trade: At least four additional teams inquired about trading for Fields, but Fields’ representation asked for him not to be traded there. He wanted the #Steelers, and the #Bears did right by him,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.
Fields will not have a clear path to starting for the Steelers as he’d have to first beat out Russell Wilson for the role, but it sounds like Pittsburgh was where he wanted to be.
