Last offseason, the New York Giants gave quarterback Daniel Jones a new long-term contract to keep him with the team for the foreseeable future. However, according to one report, it sounds like the team might be having some second thoughts about that decision, to put it mildly.
During the most recent edition of his show, NFL insider Rich Eisen said that he heard from sources during the NFL Combine that the New York Giants were ready to move on from Daniel Jones even if he ultimately remains their starting quarterback this upcoming season.
“I heard at the combine … the Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. Done,” Eisen said Monday on The Rich Eisen Show. “Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it.”
This is particularly shocking after the New York Giants signed Jones to a four-year, $160 million extension after he led the team to the playoffs following the 2022 season. However, it’s clear that the 2023 season did not exactly go the way he or anyone else had hoped.
Jones threw just two touchdowns to his six interceptions in his six starts before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. Even when he was healthy, he was not performing well.
We’ll have to see what the future holds for him, but it sounds like the team is looking for other options.
