As amazing as they are, we see diving catches and robbed home runs nearly every day. What Alcides Escobar and Omar Infante did Tuesday, though, threw something a little different into the day’s highlight reel.
The Royals middle infielders combined for a spectacular play on a grounder by Indians catcher Roberto Perez. Infante ran to the shortstop side of the field to backhand it, then flipped the ball to Escobar who caught it barehanded and threw a laser to first for the out.
Perhaps the most impressive part was the duo combining for this kind of play in the ninth inning of a one-run game. But it worked, and the Royals went on to beat the Indians 2-1.
