File this one under “Player For Team States That Team Can Be Good At Game.” Tony Romo, the tragic monkey’s paw of NFL quarterbacks, recently guaranteed that the Dallas Cowboys would win the Super Bowl.
Romo made the bold prediction while he accepted the Nancy Lieberman Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dream Ball Gala.
Romo started off the evening by noting how badly he wanted to win a Super Bowl, a motivation that is likely shared by every player in the league.
“In the last five years, it’s become all the people that I’m with, the Jason Wittens, the Jason Garretts, the Joneses, these people I’ve been with for a long time,” Romo said. “I want to win a championship so bad, but it’s just not about me. I literally want to win it so bad for them. For the people around me who have helped me.”
However, at the speech’s closing, Romo was much more definitive as he turned up the rhetoric to a guarantee.
“It’s incredible and I really appreciate you, and we’re going to win a Super Bowl next year. Thank you.”
Romo is already on the hook for a Super Bowl win thanks to Jahlil Okafor so what’s one more prediction in the grand scheme of things?
