After what seemed like decades of rumors, Shaka Smart finally left VCU and will seek to rebuild a middling Texas program into a national title contender. He becomes the first man not named Rick Barnes to lead the Longhorns basketball program in 17 years and immediately becomes one of the most high profile power conference coaches in the nation.
Smart arrives in Austin after six seasons in Richmond, during which he compiled a 163-56 record and reached the 2011 Final Four. As he continues to make the media rounds after making the leap to Texas, he stopped by the Dan Patrick Show on Monday to discuss a ton of interesting topics, including a possible future disdain for Oklahoma. Although the entire interview is worth listening to, Patrick specifically addresses the hate for OU around the 6:40 mark.
