The Philadelphia 76ers, whose preseason roster consists mostly of players you’ve never heard of, are in the midst of the most epic and unapologetic tanking process in NBA history. It started by drafting Nerlens Noel in 2013 and sitting him for the entire 2013-14 season (while he rehabbed from an injury, but still), and continued by drafting Joel Embiid (also probably not seeing the court this season), while jettisoning almost every human being they had that resembled a serviceable NBA player. That means the 76ers will start the season with 33-year-old Jason Richardson as their highest paid player, and a bunch of second and third-year guys. In other words, they’re really going to suck. And, according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 76ers may have just turned their level of suck up to Eleven.
Woj is reporting that Marquis Teague, the 29th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, could be headed to Philly — his third team in as many season in the NBA. Teague has been a player of zero consequence since coming out of Kentucky after his freshman year, as the Chicago Bulls basically gave up on him after one season, and the Nets are clearly ready to part ways after just 21 games. Meanwhile, Teague’s career averages of 2.3 points, 1.4 assists, and 35% shooting (22% from three-point range) should fit right in with the plan in Tankadelphia.
