Last month, New York Jets star quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named as a possible running mate for independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and based on a recent report, it sounds like the team was at least a little bit concerned about the possibility that he could look to begin a political career.

According to a report from NFL insider Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Aaron Rodgers caused a pretty major problem for the Jets because he was “off the grid” when these conversations about his potential political career began and the New York Jets “had no idea what he was planning to do.”

“The distraction might have been momentary, but it was significant. The Jets had no idea what he was planning to do. He was off the grid. Johnson and others in the organization’s brain trust spent a few days wondering whether Rodgers would try to campaign while playing, or whether he’d just walk away from football altogether,” Florio wrote for Pro Football Talk.

Obviously, Rodgers was not ultimately named as the running mate for RFK Jr. as he went in a different direction instead. So Rodgers will be returning to the Jets and dedicating his full efforts to football, after all.

But it sounds like the team was at least a little bit nervous.
