This offseason, the Los Angeles Chargers were not able to keep veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen given their salary cap situation as the team instead traded him to the Chicago Bears. But it sounds like Jim Harbaugh thinks he’ll be happy with his new team on his contract.

During the NFL’s annual team meetings this week, Jim Harbaugh addressed the departure of Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears, making it clear that he thinks it is a great situation for Allen with his new team even if things did not work out for him to be able to stay with the Chargers in Los Angeles.

“It’s the business part of it,” Harbaugh said according to Kris Rhim of ESPN. “And everybody does what’s in their best interest. And Keenan, I mean, make $23 million a year and play in Chicago, you know, who’s got it better?”

Obviously, the Chargers couldn’t realistically keep Allen given their current salary cap situation, so the trade sent him to a new team in return for a fourth-round pick.

It seems like a deal that is going to benefit all parties going forward. It will be interesting to see whether or not that’s the way it all plays out.
