On Wednesday, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh was invited onto The Herd with Colin Cowherd (presumably not at gun point) to talk about his plans for the upcoming season.

And, in a literal sense, the two did talk, although not in the way that Cowherd probably hoped.

Things didn’t start off that promising:

Cowherd: Is there ever a moment in the day where you’re like, I’m cupcake, I’m soft. When’s the part of the day where you’re a pushover?

Harbaugh: I don’t know. I don’t know. Guess, I don’t know. Ask Sarah, my wife. I don’t know.

And the situation quickly devolved from there.

Cowherd: What’s the first thing you changed at Michigan?

Harbaugh: I don’t know what the very first thing that was changed, maybe altered but it was just a conversation at the time. You get to work and I remember that first day press conference and then we got to work, the staff, greeting players, recruiting players that were already on the roster. You know, one conversation at a time, that’s how you get to know people.

The two did that annoyed song and dance until things came to a head when Cowherd bizarrely tried to role-play as a recruit.

Harbaugh: This feels like one of those where you ask fifty questions –

Cowherd: Well, you’re giving me, you’re not giving me a ton to work with coach, so I just want to find out something about Jim Harbaugh the human being. I want to find out about Jim Harbaugh. I’m a player right now and I want to play for a bunch of schools and I’m listening to Jim Harbaugh. I want to play for Jim…

Harbaugh: Do you have eligibility Colin?

Cowherd: Well no, I can’t play worth a damn but what I’m saying is that I’m kind of, I want Jim Harbaugh the guy.

Later, a clearly exasperated Cowherd went off the rails, exclaiming, “It seems like we’re going nowhere with this,” to which a bemused Harbaugh asked as if he was talking to a small child, “How can I make your interview better.”

Cowherd ended the segment by calling the interview a “clunker” (which it was but not because of Harbaugh). Colin probably won’t be getting any hypothetical recruitment calls from Jim Harbaugh in the near future.
