Lions 27- Redskins 20
With the game tied in the fourth quarter, Robert Griffin III dove head first untouched after a long scramble and dropped the ball instead of sliding and quite literally handed Detroit the game. This play is sure to spark more conversation about not sliding than when that one loser kid who wore jean shorts to a little league games cost his team the game when he got called out at home for not sliding. Strong play by Calvin Johnson, Joique Bell, and Nate Burleson in the absence of Reggie Bush propelled the Lions to victory in Washington for the first time in 74 years. To put that in perspective, the last time the Lions beat the Redskins on the road, people from the East coast would actually come to Detroit, and people in Washington DC would go out at night.
Dolphins 27- Falcons 23
The big three in Miami now means number victories for the Dolphins. Ryan Tannehill was great when he needed to be in the Dolphins come from behind victory over the injury ridden Atlanta Falcons. Starting the season 2-0 on the road, with the home win, the Dolphins received a warmer welcome in Miami than Snowflake and Dan Marino.
Seahawks 45- Jaguars 17
The Seahawks made quick work of the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars like true contenders do. Quarter back Russell Wilson came out of the game with a little less than four minutes left in the third quarter. Watching from the sidelines, Wilson was finally able to see how easy it is to win a football game at quarterback when you are playing with the Seahawks defense behind you.
Colts 27- 49ers 7
Trent Richardson scored on his first carry as an Indianapolis Colt after being traded from the Cleveland Browns for a first round pick. The Browns are excited about who they will get for the draft pick, the Colts are excited about what they get with Richardson, and Richardson is excited to touch the ball in the red zone without having to carry his team there. Richardson’s presence spurred Ahmad Bradshaw to defend his spot in the back field rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown, in a game where the Colts actually rushed for more yards than they threw. If the Colts continue running the ball this well, they may face an identity crisis worse than Dennis Rodman in front of a camera.
Saints 31- Cardinals 7
Drew Brees, Jimmy Graham, and Sean Payton are back to their old form starting the season 3-0 a year removed from starting 0-3. Brees even ran for a touchdown so the Saints are proving two old adages wrong, you can teach an old dog new tricks and sometimes cheaters do win.
Titans 20- Chargers 17
Jake Locker connected with Justin Hunter with fifteen seconds left in the game to stun the San Diego Chargers. Jake locker played well enough to inspire some life in the Titans, the team was so motivated behind Locker, Chris Johnson was even spotted trying to block for Locker on his touchdown run.
Bengals 34- Packers 30
The Green Bay Packers scored 30 unanswered points before turning the ball over 3 times in the second half letting the Cincinnati Bengals back in the game. The Bengals took the lead when Packers coach Mike McCarthy went for it on fourth and inches when Jonathan Franklin lost a fumble which the Bengals returned for a touchdown. Franklin was the only running back available with Eddie Lacy out and James Starks leaving in the first half with a knee injury. The Packers feel like a fantasy owner in a 16 team keeper league the way they scrape the bottom of the barrel for a starting running back. But in all seriousness, pick up Franklin, he had a pretty decent fantasy day.
Bears 40- Steelers 23
The Bears’ big play defense has not gone anywhere after the transition from Lovie Smith to Marc Trestman. The Bears turned the Steelers over five times on their way to 3-0. Now Trestman needs just eight more wins to ensure his job security in Chicago.
Chiefs 26- Eagles 16
Thursday night Andy Reid got the Gatorade bath he always wanted on the sidelines of Lincoln Financial Field, but this time he was standing on the opposite sideline. The feeling must have lived up to Reid’s expectations because the Chiefs going 3-0 with zero turnovers to start the season is as exciting for Chiefs fans as actually winning an NFC Championship game would have been in Philadelphia.
