After the horrific incident that took place in Vegas on Sunday, it felt like another surreal day in a year packed with them. It broke your heart into a million pieces and as those affected begin to pick up those pieces, a couple of sports teams are wanting to help out.
The Oakland Raiders with the help of the NFL, who soon enough will be the Las Vegas Raiders, donated $100,000 to the Vegas Victims Relief Fund. Not to be outdone, the Vegas Golden Knights along with the NHL donated $300,000 to the exact same fund.
“The heart of Raider Nation goes out to Vegas,” said the Raiders in a statement.
As part of their efforts, the Golden Knights will be trying to bring awareness to the cause by wearing “Vegas United” on their jerseys on opening night. Multiple teams around the NHL will also be helping out with pledge drives and other ventures.
In a time when so many are divided, it is nice to see that these pillars of the community are coming in and trying to help out in whatever way they can. Multiple Golden Knights players have been photographed at hospitals talking to those affected by the tragedy.
Sports can cross all barriers and this is just another example of that.
