Over the past several weeks, Caitlin Clark has found herself at the center of the culture wars in the United States as people across social media have used her – a white, straight woman in the WNBA – to fuel racism and hateful rhetoric. And Clark is not standing for it.
During an interview ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Atlanta Dream, Caitlin Clark broke her silence on the issue as she made it clear that it is “not acceptable” for people to use her name to push their hateful agendas.
“Everybody in our world deserves the same amount of respect. The women in our league deserve the same amount of respect,” Clark said in a video shared by Matthew Byrne of ClutchPoints. “So people should not be using my name for personal agendas. It’s disappointing. It’s not acceptable.”
Clark is disheartened that she is being used as a prop for people to degrade others.
“Just treating every single woman in this league with the same amount of respect, I think, is just a basic human thing that everybody should do,” Clark continued. “Just be a kind person and treat them how you would want to be treated. I think it’s really simple.”
It’s very clear where Clark stands on the matter.
