Former Iowa Hawkeyes star turned Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has broken her fair share of records on the court. But after details emerged about her brand deal with Nike, she has also broken a big record off of the court as well.
Clark recently agreed to sign with Nike over the likes of Under Armour, Adidas, and Puma. And on Tuesday, further details emerged about exactly how much compensation Clark will receive for endorsing the brand next season in the WNBA.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Clark will receive $28 million over the course of an eight-year deal, along with receiving her own signature shoe in the deal.
This offer was reportedly far higher than most offers she received from Adidas and Puma. But it was somewhat comparable to what Under Armour offered.
Under Armour reportedly offered her a four-year $16 million deal that also included a signature shoe under the Stephen Curry brand. But she of course ended up turning the deal down. With Nike, she will have more financial security with the longer contract.
This deal is a historic one in Nike’s history, as it marks the biggest deal that they have ever given out to a woman’s basketball player before.
It’s only fitting that Clark receives this kind of compensation from Nike considering she is perhaps the biggest star in the history of women’s college basketball. And it should certainly be interesting to see if her stardom translates over to the WNBA with the Fever next season.
