It’s not often you see a shot in tennis get a whopping 4.7 seconds of hangtime, but that’s exactly what happened with this mishit from Andy Murray yesterday at the U.S. Open. The ball was up in the air so long Murray and his opponent both had time to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, eat them, then wash their hands before resuming play.
Miraculously, Murray was still able to win the point after the ball came down in Denis Istomin’s half.
Murray, the reigning U.S. Open champ, went on to defeat Istomin and advance to the quarterfinals. No word on if he plans to make the eephus a regular thing.
