Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray late last night to advance him to the Australian Open Final setting up what is sure to be an epic match versus Rafael Nadal. Rafa beat Roger Federer in the semifinals and got the pleasure of waiting to see who he would face in the final. Both Djokovic and Nadal had to rally against their respective opponents to reach the final, giving tennis fans what they wanted, a match between the number 1 and number 2 ranked players in the world.
The two superstars have faced each other plenty of times before, with Nadal leading the head-to-head series between the two at 16-13 all time. It was Djokovic, however, who had Nadal’s number in 2011 beating Rafa six times – including the Wimbledon and US Open Finals.
Djokovic is now aiming to become only the fifth player since the Open Era started in 1968 to win three straight majors – Nadal being one of the five. Will Djokovic be able to complete the Grand Slam and do what only one other player in history has done by winning all four majors in a single season? Or will Nadal have his revenge?
