Taylor McLaughlin could not have envisioned that his recent 400 meter national championship race would end quite like this.
Crossing the finish line with a new meet record of 46.50, McLaughlin didn’t have much time to collect himself as he ran smack-dab into a woman who was standing in the way as she tried to grab the finish line.

Adding insult to injury, it was later ruled that McLaughlin’s time didn’t even count. The reason? McLaughlin stepped outside of his lane during the race.
Still, if there is one lesson to be had here, it’s to have the damn finish line tape ready to go before the runners are within an arm’s length away from finishing the race. It will save everyone a whole lot of pain.
