The Clippers v Cavs game today started with an unfortunate incident. Police found themselves in a 20-minute standoff with a man holding a knife on the floor of Los Angeles’ Staples Center.
Police were able to tackle and disarm the man after the face-off on the court. Some spectators for the 12:30 p.m. (PST) game had been sitting in their seats and witnessed the beginning of the fiasco, but were evacuated as soon as the standoff started. The players were asked to stay in their locker rooms.
Police spokeswoman Officer Norma Eisenman said the report of the man with a knife came in shortly after 11 a.m. from an off-duty officer and confirmed his arrest, but had no further information about his identity or how he got into the arena. The game was not delayed and Blake Griffin did NOT dunk on the gentleman with the knife.
