Miami Heat star Lebron James is in the process of taking his talents to another level. Lebron is teaming up with hedge-fund manager John Henry and Hollywood exec Tom Werner, who makeup the Fenway Sports Group (FSG). FSG owns the Liverpool soccer club and the Boston Red Sox. The deal would give Lebron a minority stake in the Liverpool soccer club. FSG is also partnering with Lebron’s sports marketing firm, LRMR Branding & Marketing to become Lebron’s exclusive worldwide agent of record.
The deal would be the first time an athlete still in the prime of his career would take an ownership stake in a franchise as large and prominent as Liverpool.
Lebron on the deal:
“The first time I stepped on an NBA court I became a businessman…This is a great opportunity for me.”
Tim Werner from FSG on Lebron:
“We’re not interested in talent or athlete representation but we think he is one of the most remarkable athletes of his time…We believe we can open doors for LeBron and LeBron can open doors for us.”
More details on the deal at Wall Street Journal.
