NBA circles were confused on Draft Night when the Atlanta Hawks traded down to grab Oklahoma Sooners point guard Trae Young over Real Madrid guard Luka Doncic, who was widely considered the best player available and a decent fit. The 19-year-old got his first chance to change the minds of fans who didn’t like the trade, with the Hawks faced the Memphis Grizzlies in NBA Summer League action.
Young’s first two three-pointers weren’t pretty, as he airballed both of them badly.

To make matters worse, Young shot 0-6 from beyond the arc, scored zero points from the floor and added just two made free throws in the first half. It wasn’t pretty.
It’s early and Summer League stats aren’t the end-all-be-all. However, Young’s clearly got some jitters and his shot is off because of it. He needs to settle down and find his groove and show Hawks fans (and NBA fans) why he was taken fifth overall. Young’s got the skill to be special.
