It’s not everyday you see a weightlifter break out in dance after throwing mass amounts of weight over his head, but David Katoatau from Kiribati did so to the delight of audiences around the world.
Despite the wide grin on Katoatau’s face, his dances were to bring awareness to a serious issue. His beloved country Kiribati, which lies in the Pacific Ocean, is literally disappearing off the face of the earth.
Due to climate change, rising sea waters are destroying homes in Kiribati and there is a possiblity that the whole country will be covered by water if things don’t change.
It seems Katoatau’s efforts are working as he became a crowd favorite and has definitely brought the issues Kiribati is facing to light.
