As online retailers continue to nudge their way into the marketplace, a lot of brick and mortar shops are trying to find their way.
Forever 21, which has a strong online presence as well as a presence in many malls across America just revealed that they were hacked. They weren’t just hacked as a one time deal. The breach took place from April to November of 2017.
This information includes “credit card numbers, expiration dates, verification codes and sometimes cardholder names”, according to CNET.
In a statement, Forever 21 said, “We regret this incident occurred and any concern this may have caused you.”
They would go on to describe how their encryption process was hacked. There were one of many companies this past year that had a data breach due to their sales devices. Chipotle and Gamestop are the noteworthy names from the bunch.
In a time where financial security is prioritized over almost all else, this isn’t a great look for the clothing brand. They’ll be looking to shore it up by making sure that the proper malware is installed.
As people return clothing and continue to visit shops after Christmas, the news couldn’t come at a worse time. Information is worth a lot to hackers and as we continue to use technology more, the different ways we can remain vulnerable are endless.
