Apple’s icon for its forthcoming iCloud service uses the Golden Ratio, an irrational mathematical constant, to create a design of harmonious proportions. The presence of the Golden Ratio is said to create a feeling of harmony and balance. The first written definition of the Golden Ratio was by Euclid in the 3rd century BC. Apple isn’t the only company to employ the Golden Ratio in its design, Twitter’s newest layout also adheres to the calculations of the Divine Proportion.
