Supporters of Blackpool FC and Preston North End do not like each other. The latest installment of this local rivalry — locally known as The Donkey Derby — took place today at Deepdale as the sides met in the first round of the 2013-14 League Cup.
An 87th minute header by Preston’s Tom Clarke sent the Deepdale crowd into a frenzy, culminating in a pitch invasion to get under the visiting supporters’ skin. Things took a turn for the worse when a steward who was trying to restrain an unruly fan got trampled by a horse. In a horrible moment for humanity, the fans didn’t attempt to help the victim, instead mocking him and flipping him off.
Luckily the steward was able to walk away from the incident with just a shoulder injury.
